Also known as 'my lecture to you all about the importance of spelling, grammar, and punctuation.'
I'll try and make this short, sweet, and bearable.
It's not fun to sit at your computer, staring at the screen, trying to decipher a member's post. It's a waste of time to try and decode what appears to be French but is really a string of typos. It's annoying to guess what a member is trying to say because you can't understand what they wrote. And it's hurtful to be ignored because people simply can't understand you.
I have two reasons to present to you, two possibilities that, if adhered to, could make this place better. The first one being . . .
Repect: It's not respectful to other people if you're not using acceptable grammar, spelling or punctuation. It makes your post harder to read and lends a cluttered appearance to the forum. And that's not being respectful of your fellow members. One can't expect the members to suffer in reading one's post, when one's ways could be remedied and the problem dispelled.
Better Communication: You may have noticed that this a NCFCA speech and debate forum. The purpose of NCFCA and really the purpose in participating in speech and debate is to improve your communication. This forum is another way of communicating. Now, if we're not making an effort to communicate well and to communicate effectively in everything we do, this forum included, then what's the point? We've abandoned the goal in the first place.
Now, I realize that spelling may not be your strong suit (it's not mine either ). However, carelessness and not making an effort is very different from just not knowing how to spell. And that's what I'm asking. I'm asking that you make the effort and try to be considerate and respectful of your fellow members. I'm asking that remember the higher goal here, that we're striving to communicate well and communicate effectively, and I ask that you keep that in mind when you post.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
